Excellence in literary works by Australian authors warrants rewards, whether through literary prizes or practical steps to ensure writers and publishing houses can thrive. The Department supports the literature sector’s vitality and sustainability in various ways.

Under the Australian Government’s Lending Rights schemes, Australian creators and publishers are paid for books of theirs that are held in public and educational lending libraries.
If you are a book publisher or creator – author, compiler, editor, illustrator or a translator – you may be eligible for a payment under the Lending Rights schemes.
