Prime Minister's Literary Awards

The Prime Minister's Literary Awards celebrate the contribution of Australian literature to the nation's cultural and intellectual life.

The awards, held annually, recognise literature's importance to our national identity, community and economy. A tax free prize of $100,000 is awarded to the works judged to be of the highest literary merit in each of two categories: fiction and non-fiction.

2009 judges announced

Minister for the Arts announced the members of the judging panel for the 2009 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards on 15 May.

Professor Peter Pierce will return as Chair of the Fiction panel for the second year, together with academic Professor John Hay AC and Radio National executive producer of Artworks Dr Lyn Gallacher.

Broadcaster, writer and filmmaker Phillip Adams AO will Chair the Non-Fiction panel and will be joined by author and editor of Australian Book Review Peter Rose and historian Professor Joan Beaumont FASSA.

The judging panels will review the 93 fiction and 161 non-fiction books entered into the 2009 Awards.
