  • National Cultural Policy
    The Australian Government is currently developing Australia’s first National Cultural Policy in nearly two decades. Consultation on the National Cultural Policy discussion paper has now closed. Public submissions will be made available for viewing on the website as soon as possible. It is anticipated that the final policy will be released in 2012.
  • Immunity from Seizure
    The Australian Government has conducted public consultation on the potential introduction of immunity from seizure legislation in Australia. The submission period closed on 28 August 2011.
  • Review of Private Sector Support for the Arts 2011
    The Australian Government has published a discussion paper and terms of reference for this review which seeks public input on increasing the private sector’s support for the arts and which will also assist in development of a national cultural policy.
  • The Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Sector Review
    The Australian Government has published an issues paper and terms of reference for the Review. The submission period closed on 20 August 2010.
  • 2010 Review of the Australian Independent Screen Production Sector
    The Australian Government has published a discussion paper and terms of reference for for this review, which is examining the ongoing viability of the independent production sector and the extent to which government support measures are assisting the sector to achieve screen cultural objectives. The submission period closed on 29 April 2010.
  • Bringing Aussie musicians centre stage
    On 22 December Minister Garrett released a discussion paper on a proposed new scheme that, if implemented, will ensure that Australian musicians get to share the spotlight with international acts touring the country. The public are invited to comment on the proposal. Submissions closed 12 February 2010.
  • Discussion Paper on National Security Legislation - proposed changes to sedition laws
    The Government released a Discussion Paper of reforms to Australia's national security legislation that proposed changes to sedition laws to better protect freedom of expression.   • Review of the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986 and Regulations
    This review was undertaken by the department in 2009. Submissions in response to a discussion paper closed on 6 March 2009 and are available for download. The review report is also available.
  • Discussion Paper on the Extension of Legal Deposit of 'library material'
    2007 Discussion Paper on the Extension of Legal Deposit and submissions on the feasibility of extending the current legal deposit scheme to include audiovisual and electronic material. Submissions closed on 2 May 2008 and are available for download.
  • National Arts and Disability Strategy
    A Cultural Ministers Council working group released a discussion paper on 2 October 2008 calling for public submissions on the National Arts and Disability Strategy. Please note submissions closed on 3 November 2008.
