About Playing Australia
Playing Australia is the Australian Government’s national touring program for the performing arts. ;It is designed to assist the touring of performing arts across State and Territory boundaries where this is currently not commercially viable and there is a demonstrated public demand. A principal objective of Playing Australia is to support tours to regional and remote Australia.
From theatre to music and opera, dance, puppetry and circus, Playing Australia has assisted the touring of performing arts across Australia since 1992.
News
The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts announced the Playing Australia Round 32 successful applicants on 17 September.
Round 33 closes on Monday 15 December 2008 and will be for tours commencing after 1 July 2009.
How does Playing Australia work?
There are two funding rounds each year, advertised nationally, with closing dates of 15 June and 15 December (if a closing date falls on a weekend or public holiday, the closing date will be the following business day).
The Minister responsible for the Arts announces funding in April and September for tours commencing from July and January respectively.
An advisory committee, appointed by the Minister responsible for the Arts, assesses applications against the published program guidelines, through a competitive selection process.

The Contemporary Music Touring Program supports viable touring opportunities for Australian musicians; Visions of Australia supports touring exhibitions of cultural material; and Festivals Australia supports cultural activity at regional and community festivals.
