Backing Indigenous Ability initiative
As part of the $1.1 billion Connect Australia initiative, Backing Indigenous Ability will provide $90 million from 1 July 2006 to improve telecommunications services and Indigenous broadcasting.
$36.6 million will be used to address the need for telephones, Internet and videoconferencing, encouragement and aggregation of demand, online content and training.
$53.4 million will be used to replace ageing and unreliable radio infrastructure and strengthen access to Indigenous television programming.
