Online resources
Online cultural resources include resources created and provided by both the government and non-government sectors for an online environment. Online resources create connected service delivery, meeting user needs and achieving value for money.
One of the aims of creating online resources is to promote and provide wide electronic access to Australia’s cultural collections, to increase audience reach and allow cultural institutions nationwide to work more effectively together.
Policies and programs
The Department administers policies and programs to encourage the cultural sector’s engagement with online resources. Support for online access to the culture sector includes:
- Culture Portal
The Culture Portal is an ongoing program that encourages and provides online access to over 4000 culture sector websites, Australian stories, weekly news and resources information. The Culture Portal also provides and develops search facilities to culture sector websites and across collections. - Collections Australia Network (CAN)
The Collections Australia Network provides online access to, outreach and resources for small to medium and regional collecting institutions. CAN is an initiative of the Cultural Ministers’ Council which is jointly funded by the Australian Government and all States and Territories. - Australia on CD
The Australia on CD Program showcases Australia's cultural endeavour, artistic performance and heritage achievements. Site licenses are available free of charge to Australian primary and secondary schools and Australian public libraries.
