Are we there yet?

Every parent who’s taken children on a road trip will be familiar with the oft-repeated catch cry ‘are we there yet?’. Alison Lester’s picture book of the same name tells the story of her family's journey around Australia in a campervan and is the theme for the National Year of Reading’s One Country Reading program for children.

The National Year of Reading will run a competition for primary-aged children encouraging them to tell a story about their home town or a special place they have visited in Australia. Children can upload a postcard or letter with a drawing or photo to the website Our Page in History.

Accompanying the competition will be a travelling exhibition of Alison’s original Are we there yet? illustrations. The exhibition and competition will move around the country on a month by month basis, beginning in the Northern Territory in February 2012 and ending in Alison’s home state of Victoria in December 2012.  For more information, visit www.love2read.org.au
