The Creative Economy Taskforce assists with the implementation of the Government's Creative Economy JobMaker Package and provides strategic advice and support to the Government on the creative economy, particularly as Australia rebuilds from the effects of COVID-19.

The Taskforce provides strategic guidance on:

  • ways to grow the economic and job creation contribution of the creative economy, including building the capacity of the cultural and creative sector and driving collaboration with other sectors
  • opportunities for and barriers to cultural and creative sector development, growth and sustainability
  • the Government's investment and support for the cultural and creative sector, including the Creative Economy JobMaker Package and other initiatives to support the sector recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  • measuring and articulating the cultural, social and economic value of Australia's creative economy.

Members of the Taskforce were announced on 22 August 2020. Elizabeth Ann Macgregor is Chair of the Taskforce and John Barrington is Deputy Chair. The Taskforce members bring a breadth of experience across many aspects of the diverse cultural and creative sector:

  • Mr John Barrington AM, former Chair, Perth Festival and experienced company director (Western Australia)
  • Ms Greta Bradman, operatic and concert artist, ABC Classic presenter (Victoria/South Australia)
  • Mr Adrian Collette AM, Chief Executive Officer, Australia Council for the Arts (New South Wales)
  • Mr Li Cunxin AO, Artistic Director, Queensland Ballet and former Principal Artist with The Australian Ballet (Queensland)
  • Ms Rachel Healy, Joint Artistic Director, Adelaide Festival (South Australia)
  • Mr Ian Kew, Chair, Darwin Festival (Northern Territory)
  • Ms Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, Director, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (New South Wales)
  • Ms Fiona Menzies, Chief Executive Officer, Creative Partnerships Australia (Victoria)
  • Ms Alison Page, entrepreneur, artist and film and television producer (Descendant of the Walbanga and Wadi Wadi people of the Yuin nation, New South Wales)
  • Mr Paul Piticco, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Secret Sounds Group (Queensland).

  • Mr Chris Saines CNZM, Director, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (Queensland).

The Taskforce strongly endorses the importance of vaccinations for Australia's reopening, as well as national consistency and clarity on business and health settings for reopening.
