Kayla Clinch, a proud Aboriginal young woman, has strengthened her connection with culture and discovered a passion to work in the Arts through a traineeship with the National Gallery of Victoria.
Supported by AFL SportsReady's ArtsReady program Kayla was able to apply classroom learning to a professional arts setting where she discovered a passion to work in the arts sector.
To complement her traineeship with the Gallery, Kayla completed a Certificate 3 and 4 in Business, tailored to a career in the arts. ArtsReady also provided mentoring to assist Kayla with the transition to work.
Kayla's grandmother was a skilled painter, and the experience working at the gallery allowed Kayla to connect with her culture and her natural artistic talent.
ArtsReady was launched as a pilot traineeship program in 2013 and was supported by the Government until it became self-supporting in 2018.
Success stories like Kayla's continue to inspire a new generation of young, skilled arts industry workers.
