The Australian National Maritime Museum’s (ANMM) Encounters 2020 program launched today to mark the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cook’s first voyage to Australia.Encounters 2020 sees the ANMM’s His Majesty’s Bark (HMB) Endeavour replica undertaking a series of voyages to 38 destinations around the country. This will provide a platform for all Australians to take part in and learn more about our history.
The circumnavigation will commence from Sydney on 24 February 2020 with the HMB Endeavour replica returning to Sydney on 2 May 2021 after a 14 month journey.
The Encounters 2020 program is part of the Federal Government’s $55.2 million package to mark Cook’s arrival in Australia in 1770 and is one of a number of activities held between August 2018 and July 2021.
