Professor Kim Scott began working on his first novel, True Country, while teaching at a remote Aboriginal community in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Since then he has gained widespread critical acclaim for his exploration of identity, race and history and also his interest in finding ways Indigenous peoples can connect their ancient heritage to contemporary life.
He opened this year’s National Library of Australia’s Language Keepers conference speaking about the currency of language.
