It’s World Environment Day in the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages (IY2019) and we are celebrating both events by highlighting some of the many heritage sites in Australia that have names based on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders words.
World Environment Day, celebrated each June, is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
The Department of the Environment and Energy works with many partners, including Traditional Owners, to conserve and sustainably manage Australia’s biodiversity and natural and cultural heritage. See their video below for World Environment Day in IY2019.
