The Prime Minister and Minister for Arts Paul Fletcher today announced the shortlists for the 2019 Prime Minister's Literary Awards.

With a mix of well-established and new Australian authors, this year's entries will delight, challenge, inspire and even return you to childhood.

Celebrate Australian writing, take a moment to discover the 2019 shortlists and find out what the judges thought.

The categories for the Prime Minister's Literary Awards are:

  • Fiction
  • Non-fiction
  • Australian history
  • Poetry
  • Children's literature
  • Young adult literature.

Explore the shortlists using augmented reality

How to scan a shortlisted book

  • Grab a hardcopy of one of the 2019 shortlisted books
  • Using your phone or tablet allow access to your camera
  • On the start page tap the ‘Explore' button and follow the instructions to unlock the content
  • Position your phone over the book cover and hit ‘scan'
  • Hold it still until the scan is complete then press ‘play video'
  • When the video is finished playing choose the ‘explore more books' button to see more content
