In late 2013 MCM Officials agreed to include Digital Technologies as a focus area of activity under the National Arts and Culture Accord.

A Digital Technologies Working Group was established with representation from all jurisdictions and chaired by Victoria.

The Digital Technologies Working Group surveyed state-owned public collecting institutions to establish a baseline of activity, practice and achievement in the use of digital technologies within these collecting organisations. The survey also canvassed barriers to increasing access through digital technology, as well as opportunities for collaborative action. Issues relating to community collections were also canvassed through peak bodies.

The report of the Working Group was presented to, and endorsed by, MCM Officials Working Group in October 2015.
