The 2023 Prime Minister's Literary Awards are now closed for entries.
The Prime Minister's Literary Awards celebrate great Australian literature.
The winner of each category—children's literature, young adult literature, fiction, poetry, non-fiction, Australian history—is awarded $80,000 tax free. Shortlisted entries are each awarded $5,000 tax free.
Entries are sought each year for books published in the previous calendar year, with high literary merit, and in the case of the prize for Australian history, scholarly accomplishment.
You must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia to enter the Awards. Non-book entries to the Australian history prize must be made by a registered Australian company.
A book must be professionally edited and digital books will be accepted only if they are also available in printed (bound) form.
Take special note that the Awards have been transferred to the Australia Council application management system. If you do not already hold an account with the Australia Council please click on their ‘Create an account now’ link after entering through our ‘apply now’ button below.
