Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Forum 2019

The Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee and the Pama Language Centre are pleased to be hosting the 2019 Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Forum to be held at the Novotel in Cairns on the 7th and 8th of May. The forum is being funded by the Indigenous Languages and Arts program and the Queensland Government as an opportunity for language workers across Queensland to come together, share our successes and learn from each other–to grow and inspire activities toward a future in which all Queensland language are spoken strongly and proudly.

Suncorp Super Netball: Indigenous Round

Suncorp Super Netball in conjunction with Netball Australia, are undertaking an Indigenous Round as a part of the league season in 2019. As a part of this round, Suncorp Super Netball will be acknowledging and paying homage to the IY2019 Year of Indigenous Languages. The league ball will include key languages of Suncorp Super Netball's Reconciliation Action Plan working group, along with dominant languages spoken in the 4 key locations of matches being played.

Eumeralla: A War Requiem for Peace

Netball NSW Premier League Indigenous Round

The inaugral NSW Netball Premier League Indigenous Round aims to celebrate the vast contributions of Indigenous Australians to the netball landscape within NSW over our 90-year history. As part of the event a Welcome to Country ceremony will be conducted in language.

Nandiri'ba'nya: Language and Country Exhibition

The Nandiri'ba'nya: Language and Country exhibition spotlights current language projects by communities and researchers in Australia, and introduces visitors to traditional spoken, sign and song languages through objects, documents, and interactive multimedia. The exhibition features a new immersive virtual reality experience (Barrawao) and presents ongoing efforts to reawaken 'sleeping' languages of our region.

The Boite Schools Chorus 2019: Dhungala Choral Connection Song Book

The Boite Schools Chorus is an un-auditioned massed choir project for schools and community youth choirs. In the Boite’s 40th year and the International year of Indigenous Languages, the Chorus will explore the Dhungala Choral Connection Song Book. Written and composed by Deborah Cheetham and Jessica Hitchcock through the Short Black Opera for Kids program, this beautiful collection of songs features the experiences and the complexity languages of Aboriginal Children from around Australia, through the powerful medium of song.
