Why we want your input

Australia's cultural and creative sector is vital to our national identity, social cohesion and economy. As we develop the next National Cultural Policy, we want to ensure it reflects Australia's diversity and responds to the challenges and opportunities ahead. Your views will help us identify priorities, address emerging challenges and opportunities and build on the achievements of Revive: a place for every story, a story for every place.

How you can voice your opinion

Read the Public Consultation Paper and provide your feedback by writing a statement of up to 500 words or uploading a submission document using the online form (preferred document formats are .docx (Word) or .pdf).

What will be the outcome of this consultation?

Your feedback will directly inform the development of Australia's new National Cultural Policy, helping to shape a framework that supports our cultural and creative sectors into the future.

The issue

Australia's cultural and creative sector continues to evolve in a rapidly changing environment. While Revive has delivered significant progress, the sector continues to face challenges, including the lingering effects of the pandemic and shifts in audience engagement and technology.

A new National Cultural Policy is needed to provide a stable, forward-looking framework, ensuring the sector remains resilient, innovative, and inclusive. This policy will build on the achievements of Revive while addressing emerging priorities and opportunities.

The development process will draw on lessons from previous policies and extensive consultation. Revive was shaped by the voices of the people from across the sector.

For the new policy, the Australian Government will continue to engage widely, ensuring voices from across the country inform a policy that reflects Australia's many stories and creative communities.

Written submission

We invite you to tell us your views on this topic using the online form. The form includes the option to upload a document (preferred file types include .docx and .pdf) or write a statement of up to 500 words.

  • organisation name, if applicable

  • postcode
  • confirmation on whether or not your submission can be published or kept confidential.

All documents to be published need to meet the Digital Service Standard for accessibility. Any submission that does not meet this standard may be modified before being made public.

Privacy Collection Notice

Your submission, including any personal information supplied, is being collected by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts ('the department') in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988.

Submission management

The department will utilise artificial intelligence (AI) tools for limited functions, including:

  • administrative processes ensuring all submissions are managed consistent with standing Australian Government naming and storage conventions
  • processes supporting the efficient handling of submissions, including creating summaries
  • the identification of common themes and issues.

AI will not be used for drafting or decision-making and every AI-led process will be verified and validated by Office for the Arts staff.

All information provided through the submissions process will be handled consistent with Australian Government and departmental policies, guidelines and principles, both on the use of AI and privacy and protection of data.

Use

The department may use your submission to inform consideration of issues associated with the new National Cultural Policy.

Confidentiality

Confidential submissions will not be published and will only be disclosed in the following circumstances:

  • in response to a request by a Commonwealth Minister;
  • where required by a House or a Committee of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia;
  • where necessary in the public interest; or
  • where authorised or required by law.

Submissions will only be treated as confidential if they are expressly stated to be confidential. Automatically generated confidentiality statements or disclaimers appended to an email do not suffice for this purpose. If you wish you make a confidential submission, you must indicate this by ensuring your submission is clearly marked confidential. Even if a submission is not marked confidential, the department may choose not to publish it, or any part of it, in the department's discretion (for example where it includes personal information or opinions about a third party).
