Updated estimates of cultural and creative activity in Australia 2014-15 to 2023-24 have been released.
Since 2024, the Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research has used an updated methodology to more accurately reflect the contribution of the cultural and creative sector to our economy.
The latest research has found that the sector contributed $67.4 billion to Australia’s economy in 2023-24. This is a 6.6% increase from 2022-23. The sector’s contribution to Australia’s GDP in 2023-24 was 2.5%.
The updated data shows the impact of different activities within the sector, with advertising and promotion and print media and publishing being the sector’s largest contributors to GDP in 2023-24.
This research is a key action of the National Cultural Policy−Revive, and will assist the government to better target future investments.
