The South Australian Film Corporation are commemorating 50 years of supporting the Australian screen industry.
As the first and longest standing Australian screen agency, the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) are this year recognised for their unwavering commitment to supporting the development, growth and promotion of the state's and the country's screen production sector.
Established in 1972, the SAFC has led the Australian film industry through pivitol times of change and revolution. Their alumni and advocates, such as Peter Weir, Bruce Beresford, Scott Hicks, Gillian Armstrong and Cate Blanchett, are all industry leaders in their own right, and their work is revered by the screen sector and audiences across the world.
Throughout the years, the SAFC has been acknowledged for their tireless efforts in sharing Australian stories and developing the skills and opportunities of future arts and creative workers. This milestone represents 50 years of industry support and future inspiration for the growing sector.
Earlier this year, the SAFC were celebrated in Screen Australia's National Drama Report for their economic contributions to South Australia's drama and post production, digital and visual effects expenditure. The report highlighted that the SAFC injected $144 million into the state in 2021–22 on drama and post production, a 47 per cent increase on previous years.
Through collective support from the Government and the SAFC, world class productions and respected industry experts have been supported and championed.
We congratulate the SAFC on this major milestone and thank them for their contributions to the Australian film and screen sector.
