Australian book publishers or creators—authors, illustrators, editors and translators—can be compensated for the loss of income through the free multiple use of their work in Australian public and educational lending libraries.
Australian book publishers, authors, illustrators, editors and translators can register their books and make Lending Rights claims.
Find out more by visiting the Lending Rights schemes webpage.
New title claims close on 31 March each year. For the current claim period, the deadline is 31 March 2027.
More than 17,200 individual lending right payments totalling $28.7 million were paid in 2025–26.
The Australian Lending Rights schemes provide compensation for the free multiple use of books in lending libraries. The schemes promote the enrichment of Australian culture by encouraging the growth and development of Australian writing and publishing.
If your books are held in Australian public, school, university or TAFE libraries, you may be eligible for annual payments through either the Public Lending Right (PLR) and/or Educational Lending Right (ELR) schemes.
If you're registered for Lending Rights Online and you know how to make a claim, you can log in now.
