A flagship dance and language program is reconnecting First Nations youth with their culture.
‘In learning about your culture you learn more about yourself’ – a participant sums up how the Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Rekindling program it is inspiring a new generation of First Nations youth through dance, art, traditional language and life skills.
Rekindling is funded through our Indigenous Languages and Arts Open Competitive Program.
For some participants, it provides their first exposure to their language as they spend time On Country with Elders.
The program also opens up mentoring opportunities for emerging Bangarra artists and career pathways for participants as they develop performance skills – ‘reinitialising the ideas of the Aboriginal past and bringing them back for the youth of today’ (course participant).
