The Australian Government will commit $33 million in funding over four years in the coming Budget, preserving Australia’s most significant cultural and historical resource.
Australia’s most important collection of digital cultural artefacts, Trove, has had its future secured with the announcement today that the 2023-24 Federal Budget will deliver the National Library of Australia $33 million in funding over four years as well as $9.2 million in indexed ongoing annual funding beyond that period.
Trove holds over 14 billion digital artefacts and stories from Australia’s cultural, community and research institutions which are accessible to all Australians, regardless of where they live.
As well as being an indispensable tool for academics, researchers and historical societies, Trove enables everyday Australians to connect with their community’s history.
Trove hosts some of Australia’s most important cultural collections, including Austlang – the vocabulary of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages maintained by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.
Trove supports each of the five pillars of our National Cultural Policy Revive – it is a service that helps us to know ourselves, know each other and it helps the world know us.
As a result of the Government’s decision, Trove will now remain accessible into the future. To find out more:
