The Indigenous Languages and Arts program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to revive and maintain languages, and to develop and present art.

How it works

Who can apply
Organisations that support participation in and maintenance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through languages and arts.
When to apply
Applications will open around February or March each year.
Funding available
Approximately $20 million is available each year for Indigenous arts and languages.

The Indigenous Languages and Arts program provides funding to organisations that support participation in and maintenance of Australia’s Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures through languages and arts.

Funding is offered in two ways: an open grant round and targeted grants.

Open grant round

Funding of up to $100,000 a year for up to two years is available for Indigenous arts and language projects through an annual competitive grants round.

Targeted grants

Funding is available for up to five year for organisations such as Indigenous Language Centres or Indigenous arts and culture organisations that deliver Indigenous arts and languages projects.

Targeted grants are by invitation only.

Program logos

The Indigenous program logos are used to acknowledge Australian Government support for activities funded under our Indigenous programs.
