The government is continuing to support vibrant arts organisations across the country, with new funding announced for both the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Darwin Symphony Orchestra.
Both Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Darwin Symphony Orchestra will receive funding as part of the 2024-25 Budget, keeping musicians in work and enriching cultural life.
The Darwin Symphony Orchestra is set to receive $1 million and Canberra Symphony Orchestra will receive $4.1 million, over the next four years.
Comprising volunteer musicians and a small professional core, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra brings exhilarating and accessible orchestral performances to audiences in all corners of the Northern Territory.
The Canberra Symphony Orchestra is one of the country’s longest-running symphony orchestras, celebrating its 75th anniversary next year. The funding will go to expanding the orchestra’s small administrative, creative and programming team, enhancing the musical program, and other initiatives to help generate a sustainable ongoing income for the orchestra.
The funding will be delivered through Creative Australia, the Government’s principal arts investment and advisory body, on top of current multi-year funding.
It is another way the Government is delivering on its commitment under Revive to support strong cultural infrastructure across the spectrum of organisations which sustain our arts, culture and heritage – and enable them to flourish.
