The Australian Government has released a full response to the recommendations of the National Opera Review final report, which examined the artistic vibrancy, financial viability and accessibility of Australia’s major opera companies.
The Australian Government wanted to make sure Australian audiences continue to have access to opera performances of the highest artist standard into the future.
The consultation period closed on 30 November 2015.
Submissions will be used to inform the development of the final report including recommendations to the Australian Government.
The National Opera Review is examining the artistic vibrancy, engagement with audiences and financial positions of Opera Australia, State Opera of South Australia, West Australian Opera and Opera Queensland.
These organisations are funded by the Australian Government through the Australia Council as major performing arts companies.

The Minister for the Arts released the National Opera Review Final Report on 25 October 2016.
The Australian Government commissioned the National Opera Review in 2014. The Report by an independent expert panel contains recommendations intended to support the continued artistic vibrancy of Australian opera companies.
The expert panel consisted of Dr Helen Nugent AO (Chairman), Mr Moffatt Oxenbould AM, Mr Andrew McKinnon and Ms Kathryn Fagg.
